Roman Feast- End of Year Celebration for Unit 4

This year, Ive begun using the Tapestry of Grace curriculum, and the boys are loving it! We just completed 10 weeks of studying Ancient Rome, and so we celebrated with an "attempt" of our own version of a Roman dinner party, triclinium and all! (for those of you NOT familiar with a triclinium... as I was up until a few weeks ago, its a 3 sided table with reclining couches)

We all had a lot of fun with it- and i think it will be something the boys will remember. Will was such a good sport about it (once again) and donned a toga, while I was the servant (go figure!)
SO please forgive the images of hairy knees (his not mine haha)

Here we did the traditional handwashing....

And Tyler was all smiles, The boys wore their laurel wreath crowns and helped plan the menu.

Our menu:

1st course:
Olives
Grapes
Hardboiled eggs
Peas
Goat cheese
Flat bread

2nd course:
Chicken
Roast beef
Squid (fried calamari)
Fish
Flatbread
Wine(grape juice)

3rd course:
Oranges
Stuffed dates
grapes
Honey cookies

some of the photos here are posting correctly, but I promised myslef this blog would take no less than 5 minutes, so.... oh well!

Following our meal (which amazingly everyone ate wthout complaining!) Zach and Ty showed Dad their "lapbooks" which are basically scrapbooks of all the things they learning in the unit.

So much fun (but alot of work)!
