the newest addition to our family..... a teddy bear hamster!
Zach started getting into pets recently, especially since Cori is enamored with every dog we see. Well, since we are NOT in a position to get a dog, Ive been considering what else we could do.
This summer, after going to the MC fair, Zach was begging for a bunny. Well, IM not a huge bunny fan. or should i say, a fan of bunny smell. or bunny cage size. So, Zach got out some library books about caring for bunnies, also in same category as guinea pigs and hamsters. Our good friends have 2 guinea pigs and they have been able to hold and play with them. Again, the cage size concerned me. Hamsters... i figured i could do that.

SO here is our cage, purchased by the boys, after some weeks of saving. And, our hamster, Hamlet (we did study Shakespeare last unit) getting acclimated. This was very exciting, as we waited for many days to be able to pick this little guy up from the Humane Society. (needless to say... NOT a good experience and next time i will go straight to PetSmart.) but hey, you live and learn!

Zach wrote me a persuasive paragraph about why he should be allowed to get a hamster, and all the benefits to having one. I dont have time to scan it and post it here, but it included things like: teaching him responsibility, how he would do ALL the work for him, and of course how it would make him happy. Cori likes him too, but Tyler hasnt quite gotten up the nerve to hold him yet. too ticklish he says.

not a great photo, but he is a cute little guy!

we've fed him carrots, berries, some banana, but we nee to get a new wheel since his long fur keeps getting tangled in the one we have. Reminds me of Rhino from the BOLT movie....but we need a clear ball!
