DISCLAIMER: I have no time to blog! So, we took this trip a few weeks back. But, when do i have time to post this? So, forgive the mass blog posts, an poor spelling, but its about the best i can do :-)
SO here are some pics we took on our trip to Williamsburg. Had SO MUCH FUN! even more than i thought. Especially b/c the kids werent all that excited about it (i.e. "Colonial times are so boooring. There wasnt any fighting." This shows a boys interest, as well as his lack of knowledge about this period in history. (but, hey... we're just starting to learn about it!)

The Governors palace with a fun Garden maze!

It was a "homeschool week" at Williamsburg, which allowed us to go very cheap!

I had asked the kids before we went if they wanted costumes, thinking it would be cheaper to buy them instead of rent. They had said no, but of course once we got there they were totally into it! So day 2 we rented costumes (complete with wooden guns... we're not in MD anymore!) and they loved it. Actually, Will an I said we'd never seen so many weapons being played with out in public. Rifles, pistols, you name it. Only in williamsburg!

mom and Dad were convicted of not attending church on Sunday so we were confined to the stocks.

During a tour of the courthouse, Zach was selected to serve as judge. We learned that the judge usually owed more money than the people that he convicted!

This photo was from a fun activity we did- training "A Day in the Life of a Soldier". The general was quite mean actually, by todays standards! The poor kids were trembling in their boots from being "barked" at by this guy. Man, do we coddle our kids in todays culture! My boys learned about the gruel they ate, how to keep clean to avoid infection, how to throw a tomahawk, load and fire a musket and fire a cannon! It was cool.

defending the Capitol!

We were able to take a carriage ride- a highlight of the trip for Cori. That was all she talked about- wanting to ride with the horses. We rode in this one: The Govenors Carriage.

News from the North! Shots fired, blood shed in Lexington!

We also spent a day at Jamestown, which was actually very cool! Here is Tyler dressed as a soldier. The armor was quite heavy!

This was the actual site of the first landing- next to the fort, except that the original spot is really somewhere out in the river, thanks to erosion.

We got to tour replicas of the 3 boats that came to America with Capt John Smith, see the fort, walk through a Native Village. See the huts and sit in the bear skins (yuck) , watch them burn and carve a log to make a canoe, and fire a cannon (LOUD!)
All in all, a great trip! Capped it off with one overnight at Great Wolf Lodge since Busch Gardens was rained out. The water park rocked! Will def have to do this trip again.....
