A Family Portrait

Here we have a rare moment:
All of "my side" of the family together, and captured on film!!
From the left is Martha, my brother Nick and their 2 kids on his lap. Maggie and John. On the right is my mom and Dad with Tyler on my Dad's lap.
In the back are Will and I, along with Zach and Corinne.
Its wonderful to have this, but what a fiasco! Zach started off on my Dads lap but it was quickly apparent he wasnt going to go for this photo. Typically, flash photography really upsets him, hurts his eyes (light sensitivity, a suprise event, etc...) so we accepted the reality he was NOT going to stand and cooperate for the photo. My family was pretty patient, as we have all learned to allow Zach some flexibility and realize he isn't going to respond the way most typical kids respond to stressor events. So, its really classic his eyes are squinted shut. Its just Zach....and we were thankful he was even in the shot at all. For me, its even classic that I am partially seen. Moms just try hard to orchestrate everything and it was so hard to have us all tightly together (in our playroom of all places) I'm thankful to have made it in at all!!
Three HUGE cheers for the photographer, Jim Smith, (www.mightyoakphotography.com) for coming to our home and taking the photos. He used bubbles, kept the kids engaged and kept working for that "perfect" shot. He was amazing!
It was a wonderful visit with my family, and always to watch my brother being a Dad. He does such a great job and it blows me away to see my little bro changing diapers, and taking care of his kids in the day-to-day. He is a Major in the Army and I'm so proud of him!
