Class at National Zoo

We had the opportunity to take a few trips to the Zoo this past summer while Z was in camp. But this time, we went on a trip with our co-op and took a class about zookeeping. Its a good thing we were inside beacause it was raining! Thanks, MA for keeping Cori for me!

The room was divided into 4 "zones" so the students could explore 4 parts to the zoo keepers jobs. Here is Tyler logging into his computer in his "office" to log his work for the day.

One center was the veterinary clinic where they took care of sick animals. Zach was getting an xray of a panda here.

ALways practice safe hanling skills when holding a boa!

In the commisary, they prepared the meals for some animals using the "recipes" provided. I think this was a favorite! While we were there we brought our "flat traveller" of a friend who asked we take pictures of him while on our adventures. Here he is ready to be fed to a snake with a plate of rats!

Zach is making lunch for the sloth. Veggies are more up his alley.

In the final area, they documented the behavior of the small mammals. They had to count the animals, show their activity, and of course, clean up the poop!

It was a great trip and they enjoyed it alot. Getting ready for our next unit on animal study!
