More Colonial Visits: Mount Vernon

Last Friday was homeschool day at Mount Vernon- so we braved the crazy traffic and visited there for the day. It was COLD, but by noon it had warmed up nicely! We toured the mansion (Cori barely made it without kicking over some priceless antiques) and enjoyed seeing some farming and a great Educational Center they have there. The movie of GW included real snow from the ceiling duing a scene at Valley Forge and cannon shots with shaking seats during the seige at Boston. So cool!
Here is a shot of Tyler rolling down the hill behind Mt Vernon- facing the Potomac. It was a truly amazing view! A lot of kids were rolling, a moment i think they'll never forget. It was hard for me to let go and let them do it- I was terrified of them crashing into the brick wall at the bottom of the hill!

Here are the boys pretending to be "sworn in" as President! The really liked this- along with seeing ol George's teeth. Yes the very ones he wore in his mouth. Gross.

This was neat: there were some organized colonial games along the front lawn. here is Tyler playing a game where you throw a hoop and catch it using 2 sticks.

Zach an C tried the hoop rolling. I just love seeing the mansion in the background! It was so cool to be there.

This photo isnt great, but the boys now each have a "flat-traveller" that we take with us to field trips an photograph them at cool places. This started from a co-op class Tyler is taking this session. We hope to mail them around and keep a journal of their adventures!
