Cathedral Field Trip

This week we finally got our tour of the National Cathedral with our co-op group. It was such an excellent tour! We completed our Medieval Unit a while back, but this was still a great way to put it all together and see a real cathedral- took 83 years to build! I learned so much, it was fascinating!

What makes a cathedral a cathedral? Well, a "cathedra", or bishops chair, of course!

This was such a cute scene, as all the students in our tour got to the prayer rail, they naturally knelt. Ty is in the middle looking through his binoculars. A must have for this field trip!

Never knew, but Helen Keller is buired in the tomb!

Here is the main West rose window, a theme of Creation. True that Cathedrals are a "poor mans Bible". All the windows and tapestries and sculptures told a story.

Zach thought the best part was the organ demonstration. No photos of that, but we were all entranced! It was awesome music. Added bonus for mom: Free Parking on a side street! Score!
